Kenilworth is a beautiful place for outdoor family photography. It has a mix of open green spaces, soft natural light and quieter corners that work perfectly for relaxed, unhurried sessions.
One of the things I love most about photographing families here is how easy it is for children to feel comfortable. There’s space to move, explore and simply be themselves, which is where the most natural moments happen.
Abbey Fields
Abbey Fields is one of the most popular locations for family photography in Kenilworth, and for good reason.
It offers a lovely mix of open fields, tree-lined paths and small tucked-away areas that feel calm and peaceful. The ruins nearby also add a beautiful backdrop without taking attention away from the people in the photograph.
For families, it works especially well because there’s room for children to run, walk and explore. Sessions here tend to feel very relaxed, with plenty of variety in a short amount of time.
The soft light in the early evening is particularly beautiful, especially during spring and summer when everything feels fresh and green.
Hidden Corners and Quieter Spots
Alongside the more well known areas, Kenilworth also has quieter corners that are perfect for family sessions.
Small wooded paths, open grassy areas and places slightly away from the main foot traffic can create a more intimate feel. These spots are often where children naturally settle, as there’s less distraction and more space to move freely.
I often choose these quieter areas during sessions so families can relax without feeling watched or rushed.

The Best Time of Year for Photos in Kenilworth
Kenilworth works well throughout the year, with each season bringing something slightly different.
Spring is full of soft colours and new growth, which creates a light and fresh feel in photographs.
Summer offers longer evenings and warm light, perfect for relaxed sessions where children can run and play.
Autumn brings rich tones and texture, with leaves and softer golden light adding depth to images.
Even in winter, the open spaces and softer light can create calm, simple photographs that feel timeless.

Why Outdoor Sessions Work So Well for Families
Outdoor family photography allows children to be themselves.
Instead of asking them to sit still, sessions are built around movement, play and connection. Children can walk, explore, hold hands, laugh and interact naturally with their parents.
This creates photographs that feel real rather than posed.
For many families, this takes the pressure away. There’s no need for perfect behaviour, just time spent together.
